Dear all,
Some of you experienced audio problems on Prof. Tsai lecture yesterday. We
would like to thank you very much for your feedback. We need this kind of
observation so that we can improve our operation here.
Well, the bad audio quality could have happened mainly for two reasons:
1) if you were using the Internet VoIP audio, it might have been due to the poor
connection that Prof. Tsai had yesterday. He was broadcasting from Boston on
an Apple MacBook Air which happens to have only wireless connection. In the
future, we will make sure that the presenters will have hard-wire connections to
the Internet, which improves the speed of the connection.
2) if you were using the regular teleconferencing phone line then we may be able
to solve the problem more easily. Since yesterday Prof. Tsai was broadcasting
using the VoIP on his laptop, we fed our speakers into the teleconferencing machine
mic in order to also broadcast by the phone line. This was a low-fi solution. However,
the quality was ok for us (we monitor in our office) and, since nobody complained,
we kept this arrangement throughout the lecture. It would be simply solved if Prof.
Tsai also joined the teleconference line. However, we usually try to avoid this aproach
since it can generate another very popular audio problem - feedback.
Finally, I would like to ask you if you also experienced audio problems during Billy's
presentation.
As I mentioned, your feedback is important. We will try to address this issue on the
next session, arranging a scheme that will improve the audio.
Best,
Carlos

Volume level
In addition to the solution by Carlos, here at our monitoring stations we have noticed that at times, in case we encounter high volume level (to an extent that it is hard to understand the presentation), lowering the volume level in the WebEx window or computer will eliminate this problem.
Once again your feedback is important to us.
