Problems with MicMac-FEA (MD Nastran edition)

Yuval Freed's picture

I installed MicMac-FEA (MD Nastran edition) and I am having some difficulties. I would be grateful if anyone can (maybe Dr. Kim Parnell of MSC NASTRAN) could assist me.

I am using:

- MD Nastran R3
- Patran 2008 r1
- MicMac/FEA

I updated the path to patran dir as:

C:\MSC.Software\Patran\2008_r1\bin

When I press the "Run FEA" icon (using CAE), Patran starts up properly and shows the open-hole specimen. However, after few seconds, the following message appers:

"Run-time error '1004':

Unable to get the insert property of the pictures class"

When I am looking at the working directory, there is no f04,f06,op2, etc. files. I think that the problem was not even solved - I guess the MD Nastran was not started properly.

However, when I manually run MD Nastran and solve "openhole.bdf", it works fine and the results seems reasonable.

I am seeking for your assistance.

Thanks,
Yuval

One more thing

Yuval Freed's picture

After pressing "Run FEA" in MicMac/FEA, the open-hole model is built properly in Patran 2008r1 (MD Enabled). Then, the following message appers:

"Unable to open the specified OUTPUT2 file "openhole.op2".

I guess the model was not analyzed at all. When I am now trying to analyze it:

"Analysis -> Analyze -> Entire Model -> Full Run -> Apply"

it is trying to call

"Acommand: c:\MSC.Software\MSC.Nastran\bin\nastran.exe"

Obviously, it cannot find this path. It should call MD-nastran rather than MSC-Nastran. I think that Patran 2008r1 is not synchronized properly with MD-Nastran.

Please advice.

Thanks,
Yuval

Run-time error '76'

Hi Victor,

Look at the other post I made in the Forum yesterday and see if it addresses your problem.

Are you running in a Folder that contains a folder named MDNastran?
Inside MDNastran folder should be any PCL script files (for this first openhole case, the file is:
OpenHole_A_SR_Nastran.pcl

Pick Static analysis, and try run Interactive. Then we can see better where the problem occurs.

Thanks,
Kim

Dear Victor, Please make sure

Dear Victor,
Please make sure that you first decompress the zip file before you run the Excel sheet. Often, we can have access to MicMac/FEA Excel file without decompresing it (using any zip file software) and thus we get path not found error.
Thanks,
