Errors running MicMac FEA

John Linck's picture

I keep getting a Run Time Error 53, file not found, when I try to run MicMac FEA. I am running the expanded file, 3.038 KB in size. I am running Windows Vista. Abaqus SE 6.8 installed fine.

John, I checked the fully

John,
I checked the fully extracted version of MicMac-FEA and it's size is about 7.06 MB. You first have to unzip the file (if you run the file without unzipping you will get similar error "file not found").

Errors with MicMac FEA

I've tried extracting the files several times and it continues to come out to only 3.042KB. Somehow, the complete file is not extracting. I am using Windows Vista to do th Extraction. Is there something else special I need to do?

You should use programs such

Pranav D. Shah's picture

You should use programs such as Winzip (or other decompressor) to unzip the file and it will work fine. If the problem persists, please let me know so that I will upload the files in our server, from where you can download each file in MicMac/FEA one by one.

Can you recommend a Winzip

John Linck's picture

Can you recommend a Winzip that I can download for free? There are several "ZIP" programs out there and I don't want to spend money to find one that doesn't work. The original PKZIP is $40, while others are free. Not sure which one to use.

Just as a check, are you sure the ZIP file on the Forum is correct, e.g. have other students actually downloaded and used it. Based on the homework response, I wonder if others have actually tried it.

John, Before uploading the

John,
Before uploading the files, we had tested the zipped version several times in two different computers.
I had sent you an email with a link to a folder where all the files are in unzipped version. You can download them from the link directly. Could you please email me the snapshot of the error you are getting? May be the path for Abaqus is not yet well set.

Note: I am using two

John Linck's picture

Note: I am using two different computers, one from work and one at my home. I now have Winzip 12.0 on my work computer. I unzipped the file using Winzip 12.0 and still get the same unzipped file size of 3.042 MB. I am at work right now and do not have Abaques on this machine, but since the file sizes come out the same both using Winzip 12.0 and Windows XP Winzip, I have to assume I will get the same error. I will try it again this weeked on my home computer (where I have both Abaques and MicMacFEA loaded, and take a screen shot of the error.

At this point, the problem does not appear to be with unzipping the files.

I was unable to get the files

I was unable to get the files through FTP. Honestly, I don't think I know what I am doing here so this isn't really helping. Are others having this problem or have others even tried.

John, We have not heard from

John,
We have not heard from anyone with the same problem; I checked the ftp link and it is working fine too. I will try to find a way to get the software to you (fully unzipped).
Please check your email.

MicMac FEA

John Linck's picture

I recieved the disk and copied the files to my computer. Same error, nothing different. The error box I get is titled Microsoft Visual Basic. In the dialog box it says Run Time Error "53": File not found. In the box it gives me the choice to End, Debug or Help.

After finding the same problem with the files you sent, I decided to load Abaqus and MicMac FEA on my work computer instead. My work computer uses WindowsXP and Excel 2003. Well, it worked just fine. My home computer, the one I have been getting the error on, is running Windows Vista and Excel 2003. Apparently there is a problem with the Windows Vista/Excel 2003 combination. I have checked out this combination in your trials.

For now, I will use my work computer for analysis. I have another older computer at the house that is running WindowsXP and Excel 2003, so I can use that computer also. Maybe in the mean time you can check out the Windows Vista/Excel 2003 combination.

Sorry for all the trouble.

John, Thank you for your

John,
Thank you for your input. Earlier, migrating from Excel 2003 to 2007 version, we had similar incompatibility issue with Excel. As for now, we do not have Windows Vista installed in any of our computer. We will look for a station that has one and see where is this bug coming from.
Thanks
